It’s been a while since I’ve posted any new digital art so I am excited to share these with you today! During my recent travels I have been more than slightly obsessed with taking photos of texture – particularly the texture and designs in many of the large rocks I encountered. I’ve got a file full of them on my hard drive! A few years ago I did a series of photo/digital art that combine photos of nature (trees, grass, weeds, flowers, landscapes, etc.) with images of close-up details of prints I had made. I had the same type of images in mind to make this time but with the rock textures instead of nature photos. These are fairly simple combinations of two images put together in multiple layers with different blending options. It didn’t take too long before I had created 15 of them! I’m posting seven today and will post the other eight at a later date. I have been wanting to try having images printed on aluminum so I took the plunge and sent off a few of these for printing earlier in the week. I’m anxious to see them, I’ll let you know how they turn out. One image I split into a triptych of three 12×12 images that hang together and the others I had printed at a smaller 8×8 size, thinking I might possibly combine them with some other elements to create wall sculptures. Also during my recent photo taking excursions I have a collection of twisted, weathered and oddly shaped roots, trees and driftwood images – as well as some actual driftwood itself. Look for those in some future projects as well. It seems I have more ideas and plans for art than time to execute them all!
Look for a new post tomorrow and the texture/digital art to continue next week sometime!
